Stefan Wurster

Dr. Stefan Wurster is  Assistant Professor at the Bavarian School of Public Policy at the Technical University Munich.

Stefan Wurster (born in 1980) studied Political Science, Medieval and Modern History and Public Law in Heidelberg and Barcelona. The subject of his doctoral thesis, for which he earned the distinction summa cum laude in 2010, was “Providing for the Future in Germany – Comparison of Educational, Research, Environmental and Energy Policy”. From 2009 to 2015, following his engagement as lecturer, he has been Scientific Associate at the Institute of Political Science

(IPW) in Heidelberg (Chair of Professor Schmidt). In 2010, he commenced his postdoctoral research project on the subject of “Sustainability and Regime Type”, for which he successfully passed the interim evaluation in 2013. From 2012 to 2015 he coordinated the doctoral study course, “Performance of politics in autocratic and democratic regimes” at the IPW in Heidelberg. From 2015 to 2016 he was  assistant professor at the University of Trier. Since August 2016 he is assitant professor of policy analysis at the Bavarian School of Public Policy at the Technical University Munich.

Research

At present, Stefan Wurster is working on his postdoctoral research project entitled “Sustainability and Regime Type”. Other research priorities in the area of international comparative research on government measures are as follows: Theoretical and empirical comparisons between democracy and autocracy, questions of sustainable development, forms and instruments of political control, as well as political field studies in the areas of education, research, environmental and energy policy.

Teaching

In addition to assigning research internships, Stefan Wurster is connecting research and teaching in his activity as coordinator of the doctoral course of studies, “Political Performance of Autocratic and Democratic Regimes” at the IPW in Heidelberg. At the summer semester 2015 in Trier he is teaching a seminar for master students about “Democratic and autocratic regimes in comparison”.

Subjects of his earlier teaching assignments included an Introduction to Political Science, the Political System of the Federal Republic of Germany, Government Measures in Germany, Economic and Social Policies, Comparative Policy Analysis, and advanced seminars on Researching Theories and Methods of Government Measures, New Forms of Political Control, Politics of Sustainability, and a Comparison between Democracies and Anarchies.
